The solo of the soprano is without any
doubt a Grégorian melody. The Kyrie is an extremely complicated fugue (fugue with 2
themes). Then arrives the Dies Irae: gruesome and piercing. Mozart removed the
trombones in this part. Thus, he manages to obtain a more significant effect in the Tuba
Mirum. There, the trombones suggest the blast of trumpets at the Last Judgement. |
