Benedictus and Agnus Dei. These parts are less convincing and the instrumentation is
thinner. Mozart would certainly have found a more imposing final instead of the
recapitulation of the Kyrie-fugue on the words ' cum Sanctis'. |

The patron of the mysterious messenger
was count Franz von Walsegg-Stuppach. This man wanted to be recognized in his entourage as
a great musician. He told that he had composed the Requiem itself to commemorate his
recently deceased wife. Even Haydn had received a commission of this same person! |
