In 1799, the truth appeared when the work was published. It is certain that Süssmayr carried out the Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei. These parts are less convincing and the instrumentation is thinner. Mozart would certainly have found a more imposing final instead of the recapitulation of the Kyrie-fugue on the words ' cum Sanctis'. The patron of the mysterious messenger was count Franz von Walsegg-Stuppach. This man wanted to be recognized in his entourage as a great musician. He told that he had composed the Requiem itself to commemorate his recently deceased wife. Even Haydn had received a commission of this same person!
